Your local shop has its own records of services they did for you. BikeCheck is platform-independent — your record stays with the bike across multiple shops, multiple owners, and even if a shop goes out of business. It's the bike's history, not the shop's.
The new owner becomes the active custodian of the record. They get full read access to the service history. You stop appearing as the current owner — but your contributions to the record (services logged while you owned it) are preserved. The record stores who did what as a reference to your account rather than a copy of your name, so if you later change your name or close your account, the history stays intact and your entries simply show a neutral label.

A shop can only log work against a bike it actually had. Custody changes hands by a one-time code — the rider reveals a drop-off code the shop enters, and the shop reveals a pickup code the rider enters — so a service record exists only where a real handoff happened. Shops are registry-verified companies, and a confirmed stolen-bike case costs a shop reputation. The record is signed and append-only, so a false entry stays attached to whoever made it.
Right to access, export, and erasure are built in. All personal data is encrypted at rest. We collect the minimum necessary, and retain only what's legally required (7 years for billing records). Deleting your account schedules erasure after a 30-day grace window, which you can cancel at any point during it. You can review what we collect and why before signing up.
BikeCheck is a Progressive Web App — works in any browser on desktop and mobile. Add it to your home screen on iOS or Android for an app-like experience. Native apps are on the roadmap.
